Minnesota 2011!

Every July we congregate at Uncle John's Cabin in the woods of Minnesota. It is a lovely time together. This year, it was very cool while we were there. A nice respite from the 100+ temps we were, and still are, having here in Texas!

Below is the view from the upper back porch. My favorite view. Very peaceful looking.
Mike and I drove up. We met Rusty and Patsy on the way and all of us spent the first night on the road in Des Moines. So proud of Mikey -- he negotiated a deal at a very nice hotel for all of us. Very, very cheap. We arrived on Friday in Minneapolis in time for lunch with Pat and Leah, and then on to the cabin.

One of my favorite meals at the cabin is Steak Night. This is usually on Saturday, and Pat provides the best steaks in the whole world! And they are always cooked to perfection! Leah makes the absolutely most delicious salad to go with it.

This year I was slightly handicapped. I had rotator cuff surgery in April and was not allowed to use my left arm until August. It got to hang loosely at my side or in my lap. That curtailed my activities a lot. No card games. Enjoyed a lot of reading time, though. Read at least four books. Finished reading The Help in 2 days!

The rest of the group spent one day tubing the river, and another on a 3 hour canoe trip. The canoe trip ended with an encounter with some of Minnesota's biggest mosquitos! Glad I missed that part!

The food is always awesome. The Worley's have some mighty fine cooks! And they cook healthy!

Mike spent some quality time reading on the computer. Or the iPad. Or anything else he could find.

Mike also made desserts for us. One of my favorites: Dump Cake! Mike makes the best Dump Cake in the whole wide world! He adds real fruit to it. Does that make it healthy?

Terri surprised us with a new mexican dish.  Although I cannot remember what all went in it, I do remember it was wonderful!  Her dish is pictured below.  Hope we have this again next year!

All the young folks and their families left on Wednesday. So it was Adult Night at the Cabin.
It was very peaceful. Wonderful meal with great people.

Our last night we went out to dinner at a local restaurant. Great meal. Then Friday, time to go. We ate lunch in Minneapolis with Pat. Only made it to Des Moines. Stayed at the same hotel and Mike got us the same great deal. Rusty, Patsy, Mike and I used some of my apps and found PF Chang. I love the food there!

Now that we have had 30+ days with 100+ temps, I am ready to spend next summer in Minneapolis and come back in time for UT Football season!
