The Last Home Game -- November 2010
One of the most memorable games we attended last year was the Texas/ Texas A&M Game in Austin. These games are always interesting, always fun, because Jenni is an Aggie and we are not! The games in the last few years were moved to Thanksgiving night instead of the afternoon on Friday after Thanksgiving. It has never made sense to me to play a game after dark in November! And this year, it made even LESS sense!
Through the kindness of one of my friends, we were able to stay at the Omni Southpark in Austin. What a wonderful hotel! And you can get free Starbuck's delivered to your room! Very comfy bed. Free water. Free robes to use while we were there.
The robes were comfy, too. We mainly just admired them hanging in the closet.
I think that this game was the coldest game I have every attended. When we first arrived in Austin, the temperature was in the 50's. By the time we got to our seats, the wind chill had it below freezing. We knew it would be cold, but we really weren't prepared for it to be THAT cold. We did our best to dress warmly.
Don't they make a cute pair? We all wore layers. By the end of the game, we wished we had on our ski clothes!
We decided to eat at the club this time. We thought it would be nice and warm and have a few places to at least sit down. We were wrong. But, on the way there, we got to see Bevo really close up. He does not look cold. But then, it wasn't as cold then as it was going to get.
As it got colder, we used anything we could find to stay warm. Rod used my gamebag towel, Jenni was wrapped up in my blanket, I was squeezed very close to Mike. We all had our ears covered. We had gloves. We had to start cheering for the Aggies to stay warm!
When we got back to our hotel, we found this:
Our bed had been turned down, and the robes placed on the bed. We also found this:
A note addressed to me, free water, and a lovely box of Godiva Chocolates. Which were yummy, by the way!
Well, it will be two years before the Aggies play in Austin again. And apparently they are talking about moving the game to the first weekend in December! Hopefully in the afternoon?
