On Relaxing Evenings

My parents used to sit outside and enjoy the evening.  Every evening would find them on the back porch watching the sunset, enjoying each other's company.  It was quiet, it was enjoyable, it required no extra thinking or planning.  When our kids were little, I can remember them watching "the littles" playing in a kiddie pool.

I sometimes miss the simplicity of it all.

We had one of those evenings July 3rd.  Ava and Eli came over, we jumped in "The Kid-Mobile", and headed for McDonalds.  (No Judging please!)  We got Happy Meals for all of us and headed to the park.  Euless has a Splash Pad that is FREE!  (Probably every city has one of those?)  We put our meals on the picnic table and the kids ran to play.

What a water baby Ava is!  Loves it!

The Bucket Emptying is one of their favorites.  They are usually hugging each other, giggling, just waiting for the water to fall.

Have no idea why they are crawling, and seemingly tasting the water.

What fun was had by all!  Mike and I loved watching the kids play -- no swimsuit required for us! (Or really for them either :) )  Eli got a real work-out -- he would play for a few minutes, then run down to the picnic table, eat a few bites, then run back.  Mike and I had some fun, almost like on my parents' back porch relaxing conversation.  And it was FREE!  (Except for the food, of course!)

Afterwards, it was home in the "Kid-Mobile".  The kids have labeled Mike's car "The Kid-Mobile", because the backseat has THREE carseats across it.  My car has been re-named "The Frozen-Mobile."  My car has bluetooth, and their favorite thing is to play "Let It Go" through the speakers while watching it on You Tube.  I have heard a number of renditions of "Let It Go".  I may actually know all the words before long.  I love that the kids love singing in the car.  Ava actually has a lovely voice.  And Eli amazes me with his vocabulary and song lyrics knowledge.

We get home in time for baths.  Baths.  Really?  Didn't they just finish playing for an hour at the Splash Pad?  "But Mommy ALWAYS gives us a nice, warm bath after we swim."  Can't argue with that.  Besides, we get to put colors in the water.  It was a nice violet that night.

Then snacks and bedtime.  Did I mention, they spent the night?  And, wonder of all wonders, FROZEN is now FREE On Demand!  They had their bedtime snack and went to sleep watching it.

After that, Mike and I went to bed singing, "Let them be little, let them sleep in the middle."  And sure enough, around 0330, we were joined by the two littles.  And sleep in the middle they did.

All in all, one fun night for us all.

"May the LORD richly bless
both you and your children."
Psalm 115:14
