First Texas Game 2010!

Our wedding 38 years ago was on the Saturday of Labor Day Weekend.  I do not know if there was a football game that day or not.  But for at least the last 10 years, we have spent Labor Day weekend in Austin for the first home game.  Until this year!  This year the first game was in Reliant Stadium in Houston.  So, off to Houston we went!  Above, our hotel room at the Crowne Plaza, chosen mainly because it is right across the street from the stadium.  Nice room.  And it was very, very cold in there!  Definitely a plus for me!

We had seats on the goal line, about 25 rows up from the field.  We could see the band from our seats, and sometimes we could actually hear them!

The Rice Band was unusual.  They were unusual when I was in school way back when.  Always fun to watch!  They were called a marching band, but they did not actually march!

Loved the hats on the band!    They reminded me of New Orleans.  The cymbals guy was rocking out most of the time.
This is shot from our seats.  The Rice team entered right where we were -- to a sea of orange!  Besides the band, do you see any Rice fans?  Very few!
Now, if you look closely, that dark area of fans you see above these guys heads -- that's the band and the Rice students seating.  Really, truly, surrounded by orange!  And our fans are loud!  I cannot imagine what it felt to be a Rice player with all of us yelling!
This is the one and only game where I have been close enough to see the cameraman!  And close enough to be on the big screen when they show the fans.  I wasn't, but at least I might could have been!  And it was great not to be sweating!  The air conditioning was great!

My sister Nancy and her husband Greg went with us.  We enjoyed their company a lot!  And we drove down in our new car, which was very comfortable.  When Nancy and I were little, people would ask my mom if we were twins, a lot!  This trip we found out we snore identically!
