TEXAS FOOTBALL!
In case you did not know, we love watching Texas play football. We have Season Tickets to the home games. Mike starts getting excited about the new season in March, and the first game is not until September usually!
My dad raised my sister and I on Texas Football. He was from Kansas, so I am not really sure why. My sister and I knew from the time we were in elementary school that we were going to UT. And if we had any other ideas, Dad always told us we could go anywhere we wanted, but he was only paying for us to go to Texas! And he must have brainwashed me successfully, because I really did not apply anywhere else! It never mattered what state or country we were in, if there was a game, we were watching or listening to it!
I had no idea that I was marrying such a fanatic about Texas Football. But I love it, too. And we have managed to raise our kids to love it, and we all are raising Ava to love it, too. Even Rod is excited about the games. (We are still unsure why we ended up with an Aggie!)
We let the younger Worleys go to the OU game, and we got to watch Ava. She was very properly dressed for the occasion. Watching her play is a riot. She stands over her toy basket, then carefully throws all her toys around her, then sets about playing with them. Then we had to put them all back so she could start again.
Her very favorite toy is her dog Mojo. Mojo enjoyed the game, too. Ava is trying to show us her new teeth!
This is the view we have of the field. We are in the upper deck. Thankfully, we ride an escalator all the way up! However, we do have to climb to the 36th row on our own power. I call this my weekly stress test. If I can do this without being short of breath or having chest pain -- I must be ok! And I do not stop on the way up! But really, we can see the whole field. I love our seats! I am not sure if I will love them when I am 70, but we have a couple in their 70's that sit below us, and they are still climbing!
And I love the UT band! The Showband of the Southwest! Big Bertha (the drum)! This is a shot on the jumbotron of the band marching. Love them! The band is so big! It practically covers the whole field!
And this is the sight that all UT Fans like to see after every game! They light the top of the tower orange for every win. When I went to UT, you could see the Tower light up right after the game from the Student side of the stands. This year, they added a whole section to the end zone, and now you cannot see the Tower turn orange. As we leave our section and head for the escalators, we CAN see it, though. Great sight! And when we win a National Championship (any sport), the ENTIRE Tower is bathed in orange. And THAT is a sight to see!
We did not go to the Tech game last weekend. We watched it with family in the comfort of our living room. We scared our dogs half to death with all the screaming and jumping up and down, and Mike yelling -- "Holding! Are the refs blind!" We also carried on a Text Message War with Kelly Worley. What fun!
We will be heading to the game again this weekend. The game is at 11 am. Look for us in the Upper Deck, about the 15 yard line. We will be the ones wearing Burnt Orange and flashing the "Hook 'em" sign!
