February -- Rod's Special Birthday Party!
I am woefully behind in recording the adventures of the Worley family. And there have been lots of things going on! I guess I am just not a good journaler (is that a word?), I am too busy living my life to record it!
Rod's birthday is February 8. This year was a very special birthday, complete with party, friends, and of course, a gorgeous, delicious cake made by our friend Edwina. But before I get into the birthday party, I need to give you a little information about what led up to the party.
For us, it all started on November 17, 2012. Our family, and my sister's family, all got together for Thanksgiving. It was also Mike's birthday. So after dinner, Mike opened his cards. When he gets to this one, Jenni tells me I need to open it with him. I had quite forgotten that Jenni had not given me a birthday card, so this was a surprise. Just the first surprise.
Mike opens the card. This is the front of the card (and I have not lost this card!):
We opened the card, expecting something funny. Okay, I am not bright. I looked at the right side of the card, where the card message was. Totally ignored the left side. At first. Then I looked at the left side of the card, and burst into tears! Totally amazing everyone in the room, who could not see the card. I hugged Jenni, Mike hugged Jenni, and we passed the card around, and everyone hugged Jenni.
Best. Birthday. Gift. EVER. Best Thanksgiving dinner with family ever, too! A lot of us got to find out the news together.
So, now we get to Rod's birthday. February 8, 2013. He and Jenni decided to have a Gender Reveal party along with Rod's birthday. When they had their gender sonogram, the doctor wrote the sex down on a piece of paper and put it in a envelope. Sealed it I guess. Jenni gave the envelope to our favorite cake baker, Edwina. So at this point only Edwina knows. And I'm sure the rest of her family. I was SO tempted to drop by her house and see if I could see any left over cake batter. I didn't. I did get to pick up the cake, but there were no telltale signs around.
Below, the wonderful cake. As you can see, no real clues here as to the gender. You cannot see it in this picture, but the border icing around the bottom of the cake was blue.

Eventually we sang Happy Birthday. Jenni was holding the candles. They got kind of hot. We sang Happy Birthday 3 times. Once in English, once in Spanish, once in Chilean Spanish. Rod had to rescue Jenni and take the candles before they burned her hands!
Then, the moment we had all been waiting for, THE CAKE CUTTING! Normally I would just be waiting to eat some cake. Edwina makes a wonderful cake! With icing to die for! However, this time, we were all about the find out the Gender of Baby Rebolledo! Drum roll please. And check out Jenni's expression in the picture below. Priceless!!
And now, we all know the Gender of Baby Rebolledo! Lots of congratulations and cake cutting! And more importantly, cake-eating!
A great time had by all! Next mystery -- what will Baby Girl Rebolledo be named? We will all have to wait until she is born for that one! I'll let you know as soon as I know!!!
"Let your unfailing love surround us, LORD,
for our hope in in you alone."
