Thoughts on Mother's Day

I know Mother's Day has come and gone. But I wanted to celebrate again, all the reasons that I love being a mother. But I wanted to start from the most recent reason and go backwards. So, the most recent "genetic" reason would be Ava. Here she is at breakfast with all of us at The Raven Grill. Our family tries to meet there every Saturday for breakfast.

Ava started out a little 5 pounder. She is now almost 12 pounds at almost 8 months! And she has learned to do so much! She can now grasp her "puff" and put it in her mouth! She talks a lot, mostly says "Da Da" when I am around. And she loves to eat! If we are eating, then she insists that she eat. Mike and I really look forward to these times.

Next reason -- Sarah. She is so special. So kind. Loves Jay, puts up with his parents! I don't have any funny stories to tell you yet. But I will be watchful for one! This was her first Mother's Day. Jay fixed her breakfast! They spent the time with each other and Ava. Starting their own Mother's Day Traditions. They came over later in the afternoon on Mother's Day, brought cards -- and Ava of course! Ava even signed one of the cards! And the bond between Sarah and Ava is something to be treasured.

Next reason would be Jenni, and of course, now Rod. We are so happy that they have found each other. Wedding plans keep on going. We are anxiously waiting for Rod to get here, hopefully July 3rd. Jenni will be back Memorial Day Weekend. And then the wedding work starts again! But it will be fun. And I will be glad to have her home for awhile.
I know this is not a recent picture. But I like it. Don't they look cute, and very happy? When I have seen them together, they just look like they complete each other. That is what a mother wants for her daughter -- someone who truly loves her. And Jenni chose well. Jenni has always been a treasure. Such a loving, caring, giving person, even as a little girl. She has so many friends, it is amazing. So many memories. She was funny. The "Roaring Rapids" ride at Six Flags became the "Roaring Rabbits." No matter how hard she tried, she could not say "Pink Panther." It was always 'Pink Panthra". We have had lots of fun. And we had such fun together in Chicago last year when we went to see "Wicked."

Jay, when Ava was born.

The next reason -- Jay. Without Jay and Sarah there would be no Ava. But I loved him long before he became a Daddy. Jay was a stubborn little boy at times, and I see some of those qualities in Ava. Some of the goofy looks I see on Ava remind me of Jay at times. Jay started walking at 9 months. Too soon! He once toddled over to the bookcase, and picked out one book and brought it to me. It was one of my nursing school textbooks -- "Your Child Is A Person, Too." Who knew he could read then? He loved to sit next to his Daddy when Mike was reading. Mike would read out loud whatever he had with him -- the newspaper, law briefs, whatever he was doing. I really enjoy listening to Jay and his Dad talk about their cases. Jay is going to be the best prosecutor the Dallas DA's office has -- he may be already!

And I saved the best for last! James Michael Worley, Senior. He started it all. I am the luckiest woman in the world. I am always amazed that Mike would pick me. He was the Senior Class President, I was the Latin scholar. He played football, I worked the concession stand. We don't sound like a match made in heaven. But college changes people. I prayed for an intelligent, handsome guy with blue eyes. Who knew it would be Mike! Well, of course, God did! Mike always says I am the girl his mother prayed for him to have. Who can argue with God? I guess we ARE a match made in Heaven!

"O LORD my God,
you have done many miracles for us.
Your plans for us are too numerous to list.
If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds,
I would never come to the end of them."

Psalm 40:5
