The Adventures of Jenni and Rod in Texas!

It has been a long time since I posted! Lots has happened, which is why it has been so long! We have been very busy going places with Jenni and Rod for the last 3 weeks! Jenni and Rod arrived Saturday, October 27th. They were the first ones out of customs at 0700! And they still had a busy day ahead of them! After dropping off baggage and changing into Longhorn Orange and White, which I don't seem to have a picture of, we all headed to breakfast at our favorite place, The Raven. Our friends Becky and David Broom met Rod and Jenni at the airport with us, and joined us for breakfast, too. Miss Ava came and brought her parents Jay and Sarah, and my sister Nancy and her husband Greg. Again, no pictures, and I am sure I am forgetting someone! Then we headed to the Texas game in Austin. By the time the day was over, we were all very tired!

Their second day was a Sunday. So of course, there was church. Miss Ava brought Jay and Sarah, too. Everyone was very excited to meet Rod, but there was quite a crowd around Miss Ava, too. Miss Ava was introduced at the end of services, and a special prayer said for the new family.

After this, the days sort of run together. First, we went to the Ft. Worth Zoo. The pictures below are from the zoo. We saw a lot of things. And the zoo was decorated for Halloween, too. Every blog I read has pictures of their babies in the pumpkins. So, I have included a picture of Rod and Jenni with pumpkins. I haven't been to the Zoo since Jay was in elementary school. Now I can hardly wait to take Ava to Boo At The Zoo in a couple of years!

Notice the camcorder over Rod's shoulder in the picture above.. He recorded a lot during his visit. All the narration in Spanish, of course. It would be really fun to see! They downloaded it all to Jenni's laptop before they left. Below, who could resist a picture in the stagecoach?

And finally, the pumpkin picture! Complete with baby elephant! The real elephants were right behind the fence!

Next came Halloween.

There were several costume ideas before they decided to be a doctor and a nurse. It is lucky they know someone with a rather extensive medical wardrobe!

Mike and I headed to church for our annual Funival. Jenni and Rod visited briefly and headed for a party at one of her friend's house.

Here you see Jenni, Rod, and Mike in Dallas.
We spent part of the day at the Sixth Floor Museum.
This was my first trip there. I have no problem remembering where I was when JFK was assasinated or when Lee Harvey Oswald was assasinated.

This is really an interesting museum. For Mike and I, it was a refresher course in a history we lived. Jenni had been to the museum before, but of course, this was new for Rod.

There used to be an "X' on the street at the spot where JFK was shot. Jay said they had to remove it because people were always standing in the road to take a picture on that spot! We stood on the street!

Now, off to Sea World! San Antonio, here we come! We left on Friday, and spent the whole day getting there!

We didn't have any time to tour Austin when we were there for the game, so our first stop was the Capitol.

We also went outlet shopping on the way to San Antonio. There are two outlets in New Braunfels, so we shopped both. Rod and Mike both found new tennis shoes!

By the time we got to San Antonio, it was getting dark. I had not bothered to get directions to our hotel. I had the address, and it was on the riverwalk near the Alamo. How hard could it be? Of course it was on a one way street that we had a hard time getting to because of construction, but we managed to get there!

We checked out the riverwalk, and found some Tex-Mex. Afterwards, we spent some time walking the riverwalk, and then walked over to the Alamo. We were too late to go inside, but we took quite a few pictures outside. Strangely, none in my camera, though. Then Mike and I retired for the night, leaving Jen and Rod on their own.

Finally, all day Saturday at Sea World! We were a little late getting there because the valet at the hotel lost our keys! Thank goodness I had the other set with me!

We started with Shamu, of course. We got there just as the show was starting. We rushed down and found seats.

We actually thought we were above the splash zone. We were wrong! Jenni, Rod, and Mike got really wet, but somehow I did not. Anyone who has been with me when I have had glasses of tea spilled on me in restaurants would say it was only fair. We took this pic because had we looked, we had warnings in English AND in Spanish!

We saw all that we could. Mike and Jenni decided to ride the roller coaster. Rod and I did not! After all, someone had to take pictures

We spent a lot of time feeding and petting dolphins. And finished the day out with the Clydesdale horses.

When Becky Broom and I were in Santiago in June, we discovered Rod was quite a cook. While he was here with us, we actually cooked for him. We had some wonderful meals, starting with Brisket and ending with beans and corn bread.

Rod was always in charge of the salad. Here he is showing off his beautiful arrangement. I hope he can come to a Worley family get together and use this talent again!

We got together with the Texas Worleys at Love and War in Texas. Rod got chicken fried steak. It was so huge he needed a take out box. I was very proud to find out he actually ate his leftovers!

Jenni and Rod actually felt the need to jog while they were here to avoid gaining weight! Good for them!

Their last night!
We all went to Cheddar's and ordered dessert!
Dessert at Cheddar's for us is legendary!
Rod had the Cookie Monster, Jenni had the apple pie. And of course there was the chocolate cake with ice cream! Rod tasted it all.

And what new Aunt could resist holding Ava one more time! She has grown, but still does not take up much room in a picture. Rod was actually brave enough to hold her, too.

Miss Ava with her parents. And Miss Ava playing Super Baby. Look how straight she is!

All too soon, it was time for them to leave! We took them to the airport at 7 a.m. We helped them check their bags -- see the full back end of the car? Gave them hugs and had to hurry off to work.

The LORD says,
"I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.
I will advise you and watch over you.
Psalm 32:8

Stay tuned for the next episode in The Adventures of Rod and Jenni!
