Fortnight in Paris - Bus Tour!

Image
We love buses!  We decided to take a bus tour of Paris.  After much research, we decided to use the L'Open Tour Bus company.  They offer four routes and cover an awful lot of Paris.  We were using this as a review of Paris to get our bearings and figure out where we would like to spend most of our time touring. All the bus tour companies have a sign similar to this.  L'Open Tour Bus sign is green.  We didn't realize it at first, but the bus stopped right across from our apartment!  What a convenience!  Did we figure that out the first day? Not until after we finished the tour for the day, of course! It was a beautiful day to sit on top of a tour bus and just soak in the sights.  I will share some of the pictures from that day.  Probably not in the order we saw them.  But at least I know what I took pictures of!  And you will get lovely shots of the windshield or other tourists on the bus, too. This is Opera or Palai...

Fortnight in Paris - Sunday Adventures

Image
Our first Sunday in Paris was probably one of the most exciting days we initially had!  It started early, as we were heading to the French services at the local Eglise du Christ in the 17th district.  We were in the 2nd district.  But nothing is very far away when the Metro is right in front of your door! It was warm that day.  Metro ride took about 15 minutes, then we had about a 10 minute walk to the church.  We arrived in plenty of time for services. Did I mention it was warm that day?  And humid.  It was only a short walk.  Nevertheless, I arrived there with the bottom inch of my hair all the way around just soaking wet.  In fact, I had to use a kleenex to wring it out.  I am sure no one noticed.  There's more.  We proceed to meet and greet folks.  We have attended here before, and the missionary there is the same as before.  We were impressed by how much the membership had grown, and the new improvements mad...

Fortnight in Paris! Part II

Image
So, we awake the next morning.  Time to check our emails, right?  But although it was 9 a.m. in Paris, it was only 2 a.m. at home!  Not much there.  BUT, it was still fun to see Yahoo in French! Our first Saturday in Paris began with walking!  Imagine that!  We were staying in the 2nd district.  Our apartment owner had pointed us in the direction of the first bakery in Paris.  So we decided to head that way.  But of course we had to eat first!  Decided on an omelette at a lovely place on the way.  It was a beautiful day to eat outside.  Of course, I took a picture of my omelette.  It was truly an awesome omelette!  Add some l'eau du Robinet, cafe au lait, and it was the perfect meal. The bakery was the oldest in Paris.  It was small, and had some interesting pastries.  It also had a buffet lunch on one side of it!  Was not expecting that!  We just looked.  We were way too full f...

Fortnight in Paris

This has taken me a long time to do:  try to chronicle our visit to Paris.  France, not Texas.  This is our second trip to Paris.  Our first trip was in 2009.  I looked back at this blog, and somehow I never posted about that trip!  We had lots of great pictures.  However, I did not upload them all.  Foolishly, I left many of them in my iPhoto.  That was before the cloud and Photostream.  So, when our house was broken into, my computer was stolen and along with it, all those photos!  But, many of them are at least in my head!  Wish I could translate thought into pictures!!! As before, we decided to travel Bristish Air.  Unfortunately, that does mean an hour layover in London, but never the less, it is a good airline.  This is our third trip with BA, and it just keeps getting better!! This time we managed to fly in World Traveler Plus, which gives you lots more legroom.  Well worth the added charge! We ...
